Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky,
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same.
There's a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

And the people in the houses
All went to the university,
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same,
And there's doctors and lawyers,
And business executives,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry,
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school,
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university,
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same.

And the boys go into business
And marry and raise a family
In boxes made of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
There's a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

  • good job on the video

(and thanks for also posting the lyrics--but I did note that you appear to have green & pink reversed in their order from the way Malvina sings it)

  • @LyricistSongwriter thanks! I didn't even notice- I'll change it now

  • the song by Malvina Reynolds is ageless....don't we all like the groupie thing? The song is a sad commentary on how living life like your peers is not what individualism is all about. Ticky tacky sticks us to the group. We need more people living as individuals. Show the world individuals are something!

  • This song depresses me... but I'm so happy it exist.

  • I'm told that this song was written about the rise of California suburbs. Looking around Cali, I won't dispute it.

  • Rise Against version is still the best :P But It's good too

  • @thebeastyoyo44

Also true, but what is living in those towns about? Think a little further, rfish54 is absolutely right.

  • Haha I love the little miss sunshire for the pretty children.
