Gameplay from the DOS PC version of Might and Magic 2.

Computer RPGs have come a long way since the heyday of this game, once a 6-disk monster on the Apple II. This one's still fun, though - plenty of secrets, scores of enemies, and quite a few nerdy references.

  • I remember playing this on my aunt's PC (I think it was part of a pack of other games) when I was just a kid. Yes, those were the days.

  • rbingham2000: I'd wager that that pack of games was the Software Toolworks CD-ROM Challenge Pack. But that's just my guess.

  • My aunt owned a copy of this for the Apple II. I used to play this and "Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego" when I was in grade school. I'm so glad someone thought of the original game and not the Heroes of Might and Magic crap.

I loved the names they had for the hirelings. Hong Kong Phooey was a ninja. Hahahaha!

  • MaverickLoneshark: Don't forget Thund R. the Barbarian and Aeriel the Sorceror, or Mr. Wizard.

Like I said, full of nerdy goodness.

  • Where did you get this game? I can't find a download for it anywhere.

  • Why did you leave Sure Valla out?

  • my favorite dos RPG

  • The sound effects in this game are just -one bit- less jarring than the Genesis version. Gates to Another World is the OST to my nightmares.

  • Easier to navigate huge, ruined undead sanctuaries!

  • To add to the 6 disk comment:

You were expected to make a copy of the second floppy (B) (really floppy back then) in order to save characters. I made a copy of the game disk (C, I think) by mistake once and realized that it was still playable, but extremely messed up. I ended up wandering around in a void checkerboard world and fighting an end-game monster (Queen Scorpion or something). My party was eradicated as soon as she attacked.
