You do realise that John Smeaton has made the same complaints about the press ignoring the others you mention and was doing as far back as 2007?
Seriously, the british newspapers are full of it, don't blame the people they report on for that.
As for the trial, if you were following the news at the time you'd know he was in hospital in a coma at the time.

What a load of crap. I am not a football fan so it doesn't bother me him being a supporter of one club or another. The mans got a bloody cheek what about the 2 taxi drivers and the police who were there before him tackling the terrorists. I wonder why if he was such a hero he didn't have a major role in the trial?? Could it be he was talking it all up?? If you want real heroes look at the lads coming back from Afganistan/Iraq!! Smeato a hero your having a laugh!!!!

that may be true for a few awards however he has never once stated that he done it himself for example Michael Kerr was there before smeato but broke his leg and smeato dragged him clear of the flames. Kerr got an award as did one other copper. I admit Smeato was the only one that spoke to the press hence the huge media storm. However well done to all involved c'mon the Scots
