@nfinn42 I agree that the future will be ad men and consumers but before that it'll be rebels and officials. Like you said, for a time, they will be violating human rights if only because they don't know how to controlling countries that are not in immediate danger of over population. Also, like always, communism just seemed to leave them worse off than they were before. They will be tamed by prosperity and civil rights movements. I don't see America just sitting down when they could rebel.
@Utopiansybill (cont'd)... because three powers would be fairly unstable. My attitude is that China is improving fairly rapidly with regard to human rights, but nowhere near as fast as they are approaching super-powerdom. For a time, we may have a Chinese superpower violating human rights on a new and much larger scale. But the people of China seem to want a freer life, so in the end I think China will mellow. They will be tamed by prosperity, same as us. The future is ad men and consumers. :P
@Utopiansybill Well, at this point I doubt anything can stop China from being the next great superpower. The USA is in decline but it will take a long time even of this present decline for us to stop being one. So there will be a sort of delicate situation with two great powers again. If Europe can stabilize its current crisis, and consolidate the eurozone with a unified credit market, then Europe could become a third superpower. They're on the cusp. Might be better to have only two tho...
@nfinn42 Ah! You're very aware, I like that! I'm from the U.S. as well but much less aware of everything, I'll admit. I don't have a job right now but I'm paying to get an education in education. :D I don't know, part of me wants China to become a super power. The West just ignores the East, or at least that's my feelings. Especially when studying Humanities. Plus my Grandfather has some friends and I'd be happy for them. What do you think?
I love that future USA is actually Toronto......
