@Henrika16 Right, but demand and high price will lead to someone taking them from the wild to breed and sell. It happens time and again. Look at the black market animal trade. I used to own exotic pets but then I learned the repercussions of buying them.

@littleweloosmom I don't know about other people, but when I plan to get a serval, I want one whose parents + grandparents etc have been kept as pets and well socialized.
Servals also breed well in captivity, so there would be no reason to go snatching them hissing and spitting from the wild.

Question: Would you be able to train a serval to do cat agility? They seem to train well.

Bill looks far more dangerous than Gizmo. He's an instigator! I hope you lock him up at night. LOL.
-
And after finishing the video and seeing the footage of serval vs dog, all I can say is, "Wow. Seriously. Wow." Yeah. Erm... dangerous. Uh. Huh.
-
Well, there's the evidence. People who own common(?) house cats should not get servals, because the house cat will totally kick the serval's butt when the serval gets all the attention. =P
-
Why? Because it's an inconvenient truth?

@littleweloosmom , I understand your concern. Actually the most dangerous threat to the Servals (as well as every other cat) are pouchers who kill the cats for their fur or body parts. Also, I don't own this cat. I only covered the story. Just wanting a Serval isn't enough. Remember that these animals require special permits and enclosures.

@JEFFBARNES234234 Right, but doesn't the domestication of exotic animals fuel a market that ends with them being taken from their natural environment? This particular animal may not have come from the wild, but I see a growing trend for exotic cats. Savanna cats are bred to be domestic, but they still need a serval parent. Bengal cats as well. Just looking on YouTube I have seen dozens of people with servals as pets, and dozens more with savannas. You seem like a responsible owner, most aren't.
I understand why you would want a serval as a pet- they are beautiful. I just worry that more people will be wanting them after seeing videos like this, and the special on Animal Planet about Savanna cats (servals bred with domestic). This video just seems a little too much like advocating the removal of these animals from the wild, which I do not agree with.

@littleweloosmom
Gizmo has never seen the "wild". He was born in a domestic world. Although I agree he is beautiful he is still considered a wild animal and you must have a Federal Permit and expensive confinment facilities to have one.

can people declaw their servals like domestic cats? please spare me of the its not humane to declaw comments.

@AshtonRenae , yes. Gizmo is declawed. But that does not mean that he can't defend himself. He still has powerful jaws and full teeth.
