Name: Kang Jeong-hye and Park Su-hyun
Activity Title: Drawing a snippet
Skill used: Reading, Drawing & Speaking (Discussion)
Materials: 2 small snippets (short story), blank paper, pen
Preparation:
Copy and cut out snippets
Blank paper for each student
Directions:
Make students work in pair.
Give two different snippets to each pair.
Let them read their handouts. They can check any words they don't understand using a dictionary or by asking the teacher.
Give a piece of blank paper to each student.
Once they have read and understand the situation, they draw it on the paper.
They take turns to show their partner their drawings.
The students who have the drawing, try to work out what the story was by asking his/her partner any questions.
Example questions:
1.Is this a man here?
2.Does the woman cry?
3.Is this a washing machine?
The students explain their partners' drawing with their own words.
They can compare the original story with their explanations.
Consideration:
If it is a large class, divide the class into groups of four. (You will need to find two extra stories)
If the students are low-level, select easy stories such as a fairy tale or a description of a picture.
Choose one pair/group and let the student explain his/her drawing with his/her own words in front of the class.
If the students do well, you can give them bonus points.
