I heard in an interview a few years back with Kevin Williamson that this is what they originally had planned. That Dawson & Joey would end up together but then the script got leaked online so they naturally all got upset and changed it to Joey and Pacey :( It was a good plan, changing the script on ppl so they wouldn't know the ending (no one knew they changed the script so everyone who read it online thought that's how it would end) but I still wish they had've left it, I was a huge D&J fan

@K67115 This is not entirely true The Pacey/Joey ending was a re-write, that is true. The Dawson/Joey script leaked but the P/J script leaked, too. If you were an online fan at the time you would have known about the ending when they filmed it. We all knew.

Dawson/Joey ending was written first, Katie Holmes read it and asked Kevin Williamson to change it.

Kevin Williamson originally wrote a Joey / Dawson ending.

What he had in mind was that Pacey was to reunite with Andie, not necessarily as lovers, but as good friends who see each other. Maybe romance down the line.

Meredith Monroe was filming something else at the time and he could only get her for one day instead of the two weeks he needed her They did film the one scene that was cut. So if Meredith could have been there you would have had a DJ ending. He switched to Pacey at the last moment

I think Pacey is one of the best characters ever written and the chemistry between him and Joey is undeniable. I watched an interview years ago with the cast of the show and they said that because of the chemistry of both Joey and Pacey, their love story developed the way it did. I was absolutely thrill after watching the ending...of course, minus Jen's death.

It had nothing to do with Katie, PS said while KW was writing a Dawson and Joey ending it just didn't feel right and didn't flow with the show and a Pacey and Joey ending just seemed right. and PS agreed and KW did talk to Katie and said she approved the PJ ending over a DJ ending

I was an original fan from the beginning. I was a hard and fast DJer. And then PJ happened. No matter how truly I believed in Dawson being her soulmate - Pacey was her true love. I eagerly watched all the DJ romance that happened, but my heart knew that they didn't have the great love. And Kevin Williamson saw it too. In the finale he wrote for DJ to end up together, but then he watched all the episodes and realized that it wouldn't be realistic. So in the end, it was Pacey. It HAD to be Pacey
