  • I'm sick of people calling this a miracle. What happened was a brilliant display of great engineering combined with great piloting. With perfect light and almost calm water, the most pilots probably could have sucessfully done that landing 4 out of 5 attempts. To say that God had a hand in saving the lives on that flight is to say that God shuns people in other tragedies. Bollocks! (Yay Sully!)

  • While I too am not a fan of the media's over-use of the word "miracle" in this, it was a "coming-together" of a number of circumstances that worked to the favor of all concerned. From the engineers at Airbus, the Air Traffic Controllers, the flight crew, the ferry boat crews, and the US Coast Guard, all played important roles in the "successful failure" of Flight 1549. But, the media likes to create singular heroes, and "Sully" certainly played the role well in this.

  • I am very impressed by the fact that help came quite quickly too.

  • How many people are wearing lifejackets? I count about 3.

Notice the Concorde on display at 08'47".

A DC3 ditched in Botany Bay (Sydney, Australia) following an engine failure on take off in 1998, I thing with no fatals.

  • Very interesting video. Especially regarding the excellent coordination for the evacuation. Notice that only 30 seconds after ditching there are already some 30 odd people outside the aircraft.

Well Top marks to the pilot and the crew.

This may be the only ditching in history with 100% success.
