Temperature inversions can happen in the valleys of western Montana during the winter when it is clear, calm, and cold. Under normal atmospheric conditions, the air temperature gets colder as you get farther from the surface. But when inversions form (upside-down situations), cold air sits in the valley and the air above is actually warmer. To learn more go to www.formontana.net and select #18.
