Our Ba Gua Zhang study group worked extensively on bio-mechanics for Ba Gua Zhang practice, including the concept of relaxing the chest and ribcage and how this action must reflect through the whole body. Developing the necessary body control ( myo-fascial ) flexibility takes time and guidance to get the feeling right. Flexibility here clearly means the gradual loosening of the gliding surfaces enveloping the organs and their fascial continuities which blend with underside of the ribs. Rib flexibility has a great deal to do with organ motility.
Ba Gua Zhang is noted for it's emphasis on the use of an extreme coiling motion throughout the whole body.
