@hanubamba That's not actually true. A "dance" only exists as something that people do, and people, as they're influenced by the world around them, often adapt the dance. For example, ancient egyptian bellydance is different than the modern form because of restrictions that came from Islam... which is younger than the dance.In the same way, instructors trying to recruit younger students often put modern elements. Very few things exist in a bubble.

omg this sounds like a soundtrack from a mosalsal i watch which is called Adam :O
belly dancing is much older than western dances(Hip-hop and disco) hence if there is any influence it would be the other way around. To be honest I really doubt that either had a influence on the other, has those who developed hip-hop and disco may have had little knowledge of belly dancing and I am sure they did not patronise it. The similarities in dance styles can be attributed to the limitations of the human body itself. To find if there are any influences then one must look at the music.
