Angry/Scared Black Squirrel in Trap

Black squirrel in livetrap. He was nesting in my chimney, and needed to be caught and relocated so I can repair the masonry. Obviously, he was displeased about being in the trap, and with Animal control being closed for the weekend, we had to arrange for the re-homing of the animal ourselves.

Mr Squirrel was only in our trap we borrowed from animal control for a few hours, not bad at all if you're familiar with animal trapping. The injuries sustained were minor and of his own doing. After this video we got the idea to put him in a outdoor waste sack where he could stay calm until we moved and released him.

How did you get it out

@Icecats5000 We tied string around the release, drove about 8 miles north in a wooded area, and pulled the string. It was skittish around people (rightfully so) so we wanted it to feel comfortable leaving the cage.

@123TestTesting Myth: Squirrels can, they typically do not in the united states. But they can. They also can carry bacteria on their feet from fecal matter, and other things. Getting scratched or bitten is strongly ill advised, when it can be avoided.

Someone brought a colony of black squirrels to my hometown in south-central Michigan in the 1800s. They are still there and there aren't any other types present. Drive just 10 miles away and gray squirrels are found. It's strange...I've heard of a colony of white squirrels in other northern states (MN, maybe WI).
