The Weekend Explorer, which replaces the XPT on Saturdays and Sundays, can be seen here heading for Bathurst on a warm Saturday morning. With birds twittering in the foreground the atmosphere is one of peace and tranquility. On the left, out of view, is the Great Western Highway and known as the Western Road in earlier days. The grassed section I am standing on is the old single track railway Viaduct built in 1869 and replaced with a two tracked viaduct earlier in the last century. Close your eyes and try and visualize the steam trains puffing along in those days!
