Yeah I agree with MissingNo11. They wrote it. Without them writing it, you'd never see it, those tightwads would never see their money, so yeah those writers deserve it, and I supported them during this strike, and I'll support the next one.

The writers are not employed by the studio, the studio purchases the script with the stipulation, that the writer of that script would recieve a residual every time it is released. This residual (before the strike) has been 2.5%. So for every dollar that the studio makes on advertising for a tv show like Seinfeld, the writer of that particular episode would make 2 and a half cents. However, at any given time 48% of WGA members are unemployed, so these residuals really help them survive. Thanks!

No, I think you might be misinformed, a written work makes money everytime its performed. So what they're saying is that every person that created that performance should equally benefit from the profits. So to not pay the writers for something they wrote and you (the studio) is benefitting from would be constituted as a form of plagerism, so to speak, because the writer is not getting monetary credit for what they wrote but someone else is. Thank you for asking though and not assuming.
