On the occasion of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's sixty-first death anniversary, Dawn.com presents an oral history in which the first generation of Pakistani citizens recall encounters with the pathbreaking leader of their new nation.

The memories and stories of those who knew Jinnah comprise the most vital account of what the Quaid was like both as a friend and a head of state - they sift through the politics and convey a sense of the person.

These memories have been documented by the Citizens Archive of Pakistan (CAP), a non-profit educational institution and heritage centre. For more on CAP, go to http://thecitizensarchiveofpakistan.blogspot.com/

  • @ROKHANAFGHANISTAN people who live one someone's hand don't talk for their people and neither they talk about their own system which is totally different than the entire World... Quaid e Azam talked about all these... he clearly stated that Pakistan will have democratic system in terms of social democracy but it's made for the revival of Khilafat e Rashida. which will be chosen by the people of Pakistan...His level was greater than your imagination. ur level is similar to the wali khan.

  • @ROKHANAFGHANISTAN wali khan a better Muslim.. well if you are a Muslim then you'll never say that.. b'cos you can't decide for now...ALLAH is greatest witnessor.. he knows who did the work to unite his people regardless of all small things like you are talking about.. there is no race after the name Muslim... the student of Allama sahib can't come to the Question of if he was better/worse than Wali Khan.. they can't be compared with people like Wali khan.. who were the right hand of nehru.

  • @ROKHANAFGHANISTAN Quaid e AZAM wasn't a agha khani..lols.. Pakhtukhwa was asked if they wanted to live Pakistan, India or as a SEPARATE STATE...they chose the truth and voted for Pakistan..if they were an occupied place then the people would vote for their almighty country.. and by the way which they did .. they voted for Pakistan. as i said QUAID'S level was a lot higher... he thought for Muslims .. not like you thinking of lower level which at a tribe..and still crying at Pathan .

  • @ROKHANAFGHANISTAN Muslim league was against British, so how can they be made by british.. they late made the bit of constitution of muslim land by Noble Quran.. it wasn't Quaid's thinking to make Pakistan he was directed by Allama sahib.. Quaid converted he wife to Islam.. his daughter married to a parsi who was her cousin..and Quaid kicked her out of his family and country.. Afghan!! your a joke.. Quaid's level was higher than you can even imagine to be at..he wanted Muslim to be given voice.

  • @citycentregreen Muslim league was a british project

jinah wanted a country for muslims right? cuz according to him muslims would live under hindu domination?instead it was to cut muslims in pieces so they caqnt rule India as they did before and to devide Afghans in 3 gurantees that india is protected .what about the muslims who are left to be dominated by hindus?there are more muslims in india than pakistan.hwo abotu jinah's daughter?she married a hindu.so it has never been about pro muslim.

  • @citycentregreen muslim league was just muslim by name and jinah was not representative of muslims since majority muslims aroudn this place are sunni muslims and not some agha khani ismailis.

why would pashtunkhwa be asked if they wanted to be part of india or pakistan?Pashtunkhwa was an occupied Afghan territtory so yeah the game was played to cause devision of a people by a british agent jinah.Gandhi was much part of this devision of muslims,he asked the brits to keep pathans devided.

  • @ROKHANAFGHANISTAN indeed voting took place under british. but why would british do that... they never wanted Pakistan to be existed, go and read mount batton's book. he never wanted to break India b'cos he was a close friend of Gandhi and Nehru.. referendum was to choose to live with either Pakistan,India or a separate state. people chose to live with Pakistan. Muslim League had two seats NOT QUAID E AZAM.. do you even how Muslim league was formed.. for Muslims of india ....For Muslims.

  • @citycentregreen

voting took place under occupation and pashtun leaders being in jail.

jinah had only two seats in the parliament while Pashtuns and others had 48,than the british played game and gave jinah 48 seats while the rest with two.

people didnt vote for pakistan and their ancestral land was not included.

jinah wasnt invited to tribal areas but his so called muslim league got kicke dout of tribal areas when they were to go do their british job.

btw look at the british plan in work today

  • @citycentregreen i think you guys have been drinking too much coolaid.

    lets note some things here

1:jinah was an agent of the british who was nothing like a muslim, all his characteristics were that of a brittish non muslim.

2:he served the british an dlater by deviding the muslims, later he conspired with british to devide the Afghans.

forget nehru wali khan, even though wali khan was a million times better muslim than that jinah of yours.

who is the tribal elder you are talking about?
