Chapter 6 in my continuing Superhero Film series.

The most popular female superhero, Wonder Woman is brought to life by Lynda Carter in the popular 1970's television series!

With her bullet deflecting bracelets, magic lasso and invisible plane audiences get a chance to follow her as she fights evildoers everywhere! And at the same time prompting adolescent boys to consider that perhaps all girls aren't icky.

I wouldn't technically categorize this as a Superhero Film, I mean it's a TV show, but I'm going to include it anyway because I think it's a worthwhile entry and I'm the one making up the rules for this series. I'm planning on focusing on other television shows in the future. In the 1970's television was the best place to watch superhero adventures, so there are a few I want to cover, but will just mainly focus on the pilot episodes.

  • Now, I have to say I agree with mostly everything you said, but... to say that we became "infatuated" with Lynda Carter... that's the understatement of the year - we literally ADORED and WORSHIPPED her... at least I did... eh eh.

Also, Megan Fox would be a good choice for a new Wonder Woman movie. She certainly looks the part, although she is still a bit too young for it in my opinion... but anyhow, she's already said she doesn't want to.

We'll just have to wait and hope for the best.

  • Considering she could be responsible for my livelong love of brunettes perhaps your right...infatuated might not be a strong enough word. :o)

I had heard Megan Gale is rumored to play WW. I don't know anything about her, other than she's good looking. Not even sure she can act, but we'll see what happens.

  • I agree theres no one that can fill Linda Carters shoes as Wonder Woman. I remember a few yeaars ago they talked about doing a Wonder Woman movie & casting Sandra Bullick as Wonder Woman....Thank God They didnt do that

  • I do remember the talk of Bullock being cast. I'm with you and glad it never happened. I recently been hearing the suggestion of Megan Fox, and it just seems like it's only because she's the 'IT' girl of the moment. Maybe they'd be better off casting an unknown.

  • linda carter is so amazing and beautiful

  • Along with George Reeves as Superman, Lynda Carter represents the most perfect comic-to-film casting ever.

The Nazis are portrayed for overly comedic effect in the pilot but this is toned down a lot in the first season, which of course, is the best season.

The most crucial part of Lynda's portrayal is in the innocence of the character but a movie done today would possess none of that, as seen in the modern comics, and so any attempt to do the character now would be doomed for failure.

  • she's almost naked

  • don't you think her clother is too short?!

  • @dianaAthemiscyra Superman was portrayed by both George Reeves and Christopher Reeve. George Reeve played Superman in "Superman and the Mole-Men" and the TV show "Adventures of Superman".

  • @spideyhaswebshooters Don't you mean "Christopher" Reeve?

  • i agree mostly, but the story was not silly.it will take an unknown actress with something special to fill the boots, christofer reeve had that "special something"...i'm sure she's out there.

  • MY Uncal Stan Ross was a director on wonder woman I worked on it in the bullet and bracelet shoot

  • @CID296 Megan fox too skinny like skeleton!!!

  • Biggest problem I've had with WW: Shouldn't she have a Greek accent? I would assume she would have spoken ancient Greek, or at the very least a native contemporary Greek speaker? Linda Carter was awesome but the whole language issue always bothered me.

  • Its amazing that you posted this in 2009, and this latest failed pilot attempt

has beared out your analysis w/almost prophetic accuracy.

  • Too many fans just want their favourite looking actress playing the part NOT someone that believes in the part and is convincing

Lynda Carter did her homework on the character and actually like the comic books where as some of the fans picks just want the ego boost and a $14 million contract

  • Lynda Carter was the Vivien Leigh of our time!

  • It's funny how many people quibbles at the blond Cathy Lee playing WW in the first TV movie. Well, Steve Trevor was blond in the comics and they cast brunette Waggoner. Also, I can't believe they never had a Cheetah episode.

As for the idea of finally making a feature film, all casting suggestions have been wretched, with the exception of Catherine Zeta-Jones's name coming up about a decade ago. She might have worked. Perhaps an unknown actor (of Greek heritage).

  • Very Cool! But the Wonder Woman series needed more Catfights like the one with Stella Stevens...............That would have really been awesome!

  • I think Jennifer Oconnell (think that's right, she was in The Day The Earth Stood Still) would make a great Wonder Woman, but she would need to put on a few pounds, bulk up a bit. Just sayin'

  • the cast made the show,

  • @HaphazardStuff Question for you? Do you know if that is Gary Busey in the Hospital Scene pushing the gurney at 9:17, the blond guy? I think it's Gary Busey, I have all the WW DVD's but there is no credit to him.

  • Yeah, you're right Steve Trevor is actually just a Damsel in Distress in this show. Somewhat of a Louis Lame.

  • I Disagree, The Wonder Woman/Stella Stevens Cat Fight totally made this "Movie of the Week" story..............The Wonder Woman Series would have lasted much longer with girl on girl fights.............Dynasty proved that.

  • @Vatch1966 I liked the third season's theme the best.

  • @MrBangkito21 I Told You! lol God She Must Be 60+ Now!

  • Could you imagine Wonder Woman and Captain America got married?

  • Good , like.

  • If you listen to the commentary, Lynda Carter asked Aaron Spelling why is she engaging in a fight with the Nazi woman when she just finished tossng some men around — Aaron Spelling responded: 'Cause then there wouldn't be fight.' It was the first time we saw two women do a full-on physical fight on American TV.

  • I always hated the theme music
