One Big Family Chapter Eleven (Part II)

"I'll drive you home," said Scott, aware of the situation with Seth's family. He knew that things were hard for him, having not spoken to his Aunts and Uncles and Cousins for so long. Heck, he hadn't even spoken to his parents for a long time. He wondered if they'd noticed when he hadn't come home last night.
The car ride there was completely silent, and Seth was grateful that Scott knew him enough not to speak. The silence wasn't awkward, it was understanding, and it gave Seth time to clear his mind and compose himself.
"Thanks, Scott," he murmured to his boyfriend as they pulled up on the driveway. "I love you."
"I love you, too," replied Scott, and touched his lips to Seth's. It was brief, but still a moment of bliss for the both of them. They pulled away and Seth got out, slinging his rucksack over his shoulder -- without realising -- in a sexy way. Scott grinned despite himself, and blew his boyfriend a kiss when he glanced back at him over his shoulder. "I'll text you later," he mouthed.

Seth took a deep breath and slowly, cautiously, turned his key in the lock. He heard a click and grabbed the handle, shaking. He was unsure of what Jen's reaction would be, let alone Kevin's. He used to call them Mom and Dad, and he knew that it hurt them that he didn't anymore. Finally, he opened the door and stepped into the house.
Hearing his arrival, Kirsten ran into the hallway and threw her arms around him. Her eyes were red and puffy, like she'd been crying, and he knew that something was wrong instantly. Following her came Jen, who responded in the same way, though it took her a while to move from her frozen state in the doorway to the living room. Seth hugged her back, thankful that she hadn't yelled or cried...yet.
Seth gulped and waited for Kevin, for the confrontation. He'd known it was coming for a long time, but had been putting it off, avoiding it. He didn't like when people yelled at him, it reminded him of his old parents, before the foster home. He shuddered, and pulled back from Jen, who met his eyes for an instant and read him like a book.
Kevin strode out into the hallway, clearing his throat. "Where were you last night, Seth? Why the hell didn't you come home? Don't you understand that your mother and I were worried sick last night, wondering and just begging that you were safe?"
"Jen's not my mother," he said. It just slipped out.
Kevin looked like he had just leant on an electric fence. There was a long silence before he spoke again. "I know that these past years have been hard on you, and that we haven't been as close as we used to be since Kirsten came along, but no matter what, you mean the world to Jen and I, and saying what you did just then really hurt."
Seth regretted it instantly and looked down, biting his lip. "I'm so sorry, Kevin," he said, then kicked himself. "I mean Dad. Please. I'm sorry. I just...when Mom got pregnant I thought that you would send me back to the home. I thought that you didn't want me anymore because now you had what you wanted, what you thought you couldn't have, the reason why you settled for me."
