This is the fourth video clip that I shot of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Montreal this Sunday March 22, 2009. It shows a pipe and drum band proceeding along St. Catherine Street passing in front of St. James The Apostle Church near the corner of Bishop Street. YouTuber pmbear informs me this is a massed pipes and drums corps comprising members of The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada, The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa, and The Calgary Highlanders. A total of 87 musicians on parade.

This video, and all other videos of the 2009 St. Patrick's Day Parade in Montreal, were shot in 720p HD video using my Nikon D90 DSLR in D-Movie Mode with an 18-200mm Nikkor VR lens. The picture quality is a lot sharper than the compressed YouTube "normal" video which makes it look very "soft". View this HD video in YouTube's HQ mode if you can, it is a lot better "viewing experience". They look good in full screen mode. About 15 more video clips of the 2009 St. Patrick's Day Parade are on the way. . .

  • You don't sound too bad either. . . ;-)

  • With that many people it is hard to sound bad... :-) Generally we prefer to be called "Massed Pipes & Drums" though. Pipes & Drums "Band" is kind of a misnomer. We are a "corps" of Pipes & Drums. ;-) Good footage.

  • As you may have noticed I have updated the title and description of this video based on the information you supplied. If you or anyone else supplies additional pertinent information in a comment I may further add to or revise the description of this video. Needless to say that goes for pretty much all of my YouTube videos.

  • Well if I weren't in that parade, I wouldn't comment. ;-) Thanks for adding that info, and thanks for filming and posting!

  • It seems clear that you know what you are talking about even if you weren't in the parade but I presumed that you almost certainly were in it based on the available evidence. ;-) You're welcome for the filming and posting. My pleasure. This is the first year I did any video. Normally I am a still photographer but I was trying out my new Nikon D90's D-Movie mode and the more I use it the more I like it even if it has some technical glitches that need to be worked out in future models of DSLRs.

  • Thanks for that info pmbear. It's appreciated.

I very much enjoy bagpipes and pipe and drum bands, in reasonable doses of course! ;-)

  • Is it ironic that so called 'Scotsmen' are playing an old Irish rebel song? No, it's not ironic because these aren't Scotsmen - they're fake New World Scotsmen. Pathetic really; if -and I don't understand why Scots would be marching for St. Patrick's day - but if you're going to march at least play a tune that befits Scotland. News flash for you New Worlders - rebel songs are anti-British, they're anti-Scottish just as much as they're anti-English.

  • @TheTwollocks Because they're yanky Scots, i.e., not Scots at all.

  • i dont understand why the scottish would take part in a st patricks day parade

  • I really liked the way they played that little exerpt of the Minstrel Boy in their song there... Very Classy!!

  • @MikH990 'Wearing of the Green'

  • The first tune is "The minstrel boy", what's the second tune?

  • I was in the back rank

  • Damn we look fucking killer ... go us!
