If Jonathon Harker was in that coffin..where did the girl go who he staked?

@kenrocks44 LOL, no it is NOT - this is NOT the original trailer at all - this is something they made in 2007 for the remastering of the film. The original trailer is very different, can be found on YouTube (or the DVD), and has lots of text over it many times.

@LeChevalierNoir4474 I said in my earlier statement you're a Bram Stoker 'purist'..You would not like this version..I'm looking at it from a cinematic viewpoint and from that angle I think it's the greatest horror movie ever made..It has the right mood..The right character portrayals..For a HORROR MOVIE it has all the right ingredients..

@80111live I'm sorry --in 1958 I thought it was great but not now--it so trashes the book. Jonathan Harker is NOT made into a vampire. He is locked in the castle but manages to escape. Movies staring Gary Oldman and Louis Jourdan as Dracula are the best. Incidentally, in the book Dracula meets his demise when Van Helsing chases him and his gypsy band down just before sunset and decapitate him. I think Chis Lee is the greatest. He could have been the greatest Dracula with a good script!

@LeChevalierNoir4474 In 1958, 2002 and 2012, this is still the greatest horror movie of all time...If you're a Bram Stoker 'purist' than I guess it isn't..But in terms of music..lighting..pace and performance, it's the best..This was a breakout movie back in its' time...Nothing like this in color had ever been seen in a horror film..Christopher Lee's performance is both violent and seductive..A combination he carried on to make him the greatest 'movie' Dracula of all time..

I respect Lugosi's portrayal of Dracula but for me there is only one Dracula, Christopher Lee. There is also, for me, only one Van Helsing, Peter Cushing. Nobody else comes close!

Would have loved to have seen Chris Lee in a Mummy Version that followed Karloff's 1931 version. He could have used his Shakespearean acting talents well with such a script. However, Hammer Films chose to base their remake on the Mummy movies which came after Karlof---they were not sophisticated at all!

When I saw this at the show in 1958 I thought it was the best movie ever. When I got the DVD around 2002 and watched it, I thought the movie really sucked! Nothing against Chris Lee-- one the finest actors ever but this script did great violence to the Stoker's novel - robbed the vampire of most of his powers. By today's standards this is laughable but then so is the 1931 Lugosi version. Best Drac movies: Copolla's and BBC movie with Louis Jourdan--it follows book right on!

One of the finest horror films of all time, from the best horror film studio ever. And what do the studios produce today? Computer graphics crap films, one after the other. They look more like video games than movies. I am so thankful that we have a huge library of classic films to enjoy.

@HimWotMustBeObeyed Well said, AMEN!!
@siouxsiewestwood Not in the UK or most of the world outside North America. The 1930s film with the great magyar actor Bela Lugosi is a classic (albeit not as good as the Spanish language film from that year) but if you go to most of Eurasia THE classic is the Hammer film.

The trailer is very nicely cleaned up from the original.This movie scared the crap out of me when I was 12. By today's standards is is a tad creaky. But Chris Lee's on screen presence is just the best Dracula ever. Cushing's Van Helsing unbelieveable. Watching it today..I wish they could have expanded Lee's role and made it longer and even more graphic. BUT back in 1958 there were codes.It is ONE CLASSIC movie though , on a scale of 1-10.....a definite 11 and1/2.
