So if you're tapping it in to the metronome, you basically wanna fit 5 taps evenly amongst the 4 counts?
-
I tried doing this but for some reason might be my amp but I can't get the delay to be as loud as the original note is this a simple solution or ???

VERY helpful!!
Thank you. This was simple and EFFECTIVE!
Now I just need a delay that I can use it with.

@yobhsiFehT no. a dotted eighth is three 16th notes, or 1.5 eighth notes.

what amp are you using? it sounds nice

@mattjhuber This is the most helpful video I have found for tapping out dotted eight delay manually. I use a Digitech X-Series Digidelay (which doesn't have a built in dotted eighth delay setting) and I am now able to tap out the delay manually. Thanks!

@mattjhuber I own a LIne 6 DL4 and I'll assure you that it does have a dotted eighth setting (or technically a dotted quarter note as you have to tap eighth notes for it to work as a dotted eighth).
The 'Stereo Delay' model has a dotted eighth in the left channel as standard in mono.
It is in the Stomp Box Modeller FAQ (appears I can't post links on here) scroll to the bottom - it's the last question.

So... basically think of it like fitting five beats in 4, starting on the same 1.?. Yes? No? Way off?? :S:D

Excellet. I have one question....maybe two.
Will this work with any of the mod settings on the left knob?
Do the Delay time and repeat knobs need to be on any pariticular setting?
Thanks
The delay time is all in the tap tempo - this is NOT set on the rhythmic delay setting, but the digital delay. You are literally tapping in the dotted 8th rhythm into the DL4. Its just a matter of familiarizing yourself with what a dotted 8th (3/16th note) sounds like.

I am just using the digital delay setting. The mix is at about 1:00 or so. The tweak is at 9:00, tweeze is at 4:00. Contrary to popular belief, the DL4 does not have a dotted 8th option. The one brought up (in the Rhythmic Delay setting), is actually a triplet. A dotted 1/8th is a 3/16th note.
