the strangefolk are what has become the majority of humanity, twisted and darkened by their world of the "litany of excess and violence". the story is about the corruption of what may possibly be the last pure-hearted society left, who have become one with nature but lost their sight in the process.

the happyfolk are an innocent and kind society, cut off from the world in their town covered by clouds. but eventually, the strangefolk discover this paradise and the treasure that lay in it.
