Colchester Drive 1986 (Part 1 Town Centre and The Hythe + Radio Caroline.)

This was recorded on Sunday April the 13th. 1986 on a Video 8 camcorder. The quality is not the best as it was first transferred to VHS before DVD and computer but I think it is still interesting all the same.It starts at 9am. but check the lack of traffic as this is pre Sunday shopping,no speed cameras and petrol £1.62 a gallon (35.6/Lt) !! Also listen to the Radio Caroline news right at the start...nothing changes, its Libya ! This part just covers the Town Centre and the Hythe, quite a few things have changed in 25 years.It was recorded because I was back here on holiday from Australia and planning to move back so I took the tape back to Oz so my partner could see it . Seemed a good idea at the time!!!

I've lived in Colchester all my life 46 years and it has changed , you have all these images in your head but being able to see them on a screen is great, just wish more people had video cameras back then but I guess it was more important to have a Betamax video recorder lol ..... Thank you :)

My dad had an Allegro back then 2:38 he loved it it was 2 tone with the hydragas supension one year he filled it up to much so it was like it was on stilts.

Fantastic starts from where i used to live, passes my house at 1.19 (mum and dad) still live there , amazing how much has changed , but also how much hasnt :-)

Can I just say thank you so much for posting this up!, I was only 6 at the time but being a Colchester boy i can remember town just like this, it hasn't really changed much either!
