Tampa financial planner Paula Albertson warns credit card users to take a closer look at next months bill. Albertson appeared as a guest on 10 Connects This Morning, a local newscast for CBS affiliate WTSP, Tuesday, November 3 to discuss rising credit card rates and fees.
Credit card companies are raising customers rates, regardless of whether or not they make payments on time, points out the Tampa financial expert. Credit card companies have collected more than $10 billion in fees just in the last year.
Albertson says the credit card companies are trying to make all the rate increases they can before new federal regulations go into effect next year. Some credit card companies are even creating a new annual fee for customers who continually pay their balance in full each month, she says.
