There can be otaku, in the Japanese sense of the word, for any hobby. You could be a computer otaku, an anime otaku, a car otaku, a military otaku... any thing you take to an obsessive level.
In the west, otaku is different. I don't want to try to define it, else 50 otaku will jump down my throat XD

The otakus are not in Akihabara anymore since the serial kilkler case had happened in the 中央道、電気街。 There is no more 歩行者天国 In Akihabara anymore...How sad。
