WEATHERORNUT - the tail doesn't stretch across the distance between earth and neptune as such. Back in the 80's it crossed Earth's orbit and left a trail of debris, that's what we are going to go through tonight. The debris is no longer actually part of the comets tail. For info the tail is estimated to be 100m KM in length - according to wikipedia - so wouldn't even stretch between us and the sun. Hope this helps, and hope the skies are clear!!

hi and thank you for the vid, does this mean that the tail of Halleys comet is billions of miles long?.The minimum distance from Earth to Neptune (when they are on the same side of the Sun) is 4.305 billion km and meteors are coming from its tail..That one BIG TAIL that you are talking about.. Can some one help explain this please..
Soooo, Im from North West europe (Netherlands), at what time should I go watch and in what direction mainly?

It's 3 a.m. where ever you are THAT time. At 3 a.m. YOU are facing directly into the leading edge space. In other words, you're setting on the front bumper of the car hurtling thru space. The collision of earth and debris happens at the front of the car. At sunset thru midnight you're setting on the rear bumper. You won't see the wreck because you're facing/looking the wrong direction.
