The KAZU TIME Show -BELIEVE-
Episode 4: 書道/水墨画: Japanese Calligraphy & Ink and Wash Painting:-)
書道 (shodou):
Japanese calligraphy, shodou, is a specialized art using a brush and black ink to write Japanese characters. It does carry some similarities to western calligraphy, but is considered more of an art form. The reason for this is that each character has a special meaning in and of itself, and because of the great variety of characters available. In western calligraphy one has twenty six characters, in Japanese calligraphy there is about 48,000 characters one may use (though this requires a lifetime of dedication). Japanese calligraphy is not just popular in Japan, but is now find a large audience world wide.
水墨画 (Suibokuga):
Ink and wash painting is an East Asian type of brush painting also known as wash painting or by its Japanese name sumi-e (墨絵). Ink and wash painting is also known by its Chinese name shui-mo hua (水墨畫, Japanese suibokuga (水墨画), Korean sumukhwa). Only black ink — the same as used in East Asian calligraphy — is used, in various concentrations. In Western art works on paper in similar techniques are generally classified with drawings.
I love art, and art has been my passion since I was very little:-) Art is a wonderful international language to communicate through our hearts and is a wonderful communication tool to express ourselves and our feelings and emotions:-) I also like the feelings and sensations when I really focus on creating my artworks with empty mind in my art world:-) I don't hear anything and don't care about anything else, and everything becomes so quiet, calm, and peaceful when I really focus:-) To me, feeling of creating my artworks is similar to meditation:-)
I love creating and designing posters, publications and artworks; love designing mascot characters and logos; love painting the wall murals; love participating in the art activities; and love teaching the art classes to children on the campuses and in the communities; and have been awarded the prizes for the drawing and designing art competitions:-)

Brush has different sizes, so I recommend you to choose the brush which can fit on your hand nicely:-) I usually use a middle size brush which I can draw both thin and thick lines:-) Just like waterclors brushes, it's useful to have different size brushes for different purposes:-) For example, I sometimes use thinner brush for more details like writing the date and the name and for details works:-) I usually use a middle size brush for all works:-) To me, importance is comfortableness:-)

Hello tarubinap, thank you for watching my video! I originally made this video to my friends who are interested in Japanese culture and art, and in this video, I used the Japanese brush called the Pentel brush "Tsumiho!" I also use different brushes! I visited your page, and it looks like you also like art!
