What a scary thought for you guys. Having people who believe in magic and fairy tales running your country and at the same time controlling the worlds largest military arsenal.

baraks interpretation of the bible is quite frankly, wrong. Some of the new testament refutes the old, such as the stoning example brought up. John 8: "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"

How is it that as a nation, the majority is trying to become the very thing they despise? The majority despises how prevalent religion is in the Middle East, the rules they follow, how they treat women, children, etc. Yet, they are willing to put money, time and effort into doing the same exact thing here? It really doesn't matter how evil you think Isalm to be. The majority and the "enemy" are really just two sides of the same coin.

Originally the U.S. was meant to be a neutral slate. A place where everyone could be free to be religious and non religious. It's why it's known as "the land of the free". But now because of pressure from theists over the centuries, we're left with religious crap sewin in to the fabric of the U.S. such as "In god we trust" on coins and "under god" in the pledge of allegance.

@436214 LOL. As an Atheist in this hotbed of Xianity I concur. I've visited Sweden & greatly appreciated your secular country. Only wish we would see things your way.

@436214 Very thought-provoking comments.

@ltgrandmaps3I AM an Atheist, & was a Republican back when they were fiscally responsible. Eight years of Bush 2 s fiscal idiocy, encouraged by the Rep.party showed me the error of my ways. It will take 20 years to undo his stupid, unnecessary invasion of Iraq, because he wanted to be a WARTIME Pres.

Right on.Melissa230984 " The purpose of separation of church & state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries. " Pres. James Madison Few Americans realise just HOW BLOODY it was during the reformastion.

Im completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death.

Well said. There's also that quote about how "absolute power corrupts absolutely". What other institutions besides religion and government have embodied that statement so well?

2. so America's gov't is not Christian, but a lot of Christian ideals are behind the founders intentions because, especially through recent history the majority of Americans are Christian as the majority of Indians are hindi etc.
3. I think I've proven that you misconstrued my agenda and I was not refuting this. I can just understand why it's not so VILE that McCain feels that Christianity (its ideals, not practice) does have some relevance to our gov't.

2. What Christian ideals? Love, freedom, and charity? How are these exclusively Christian ideals? Sure, most Americans today are Christian, but that tells us nothing about how our country was founded.
3. Misconstrued your agenda? Not at all, I was merely basing my reply on what you wrote and the context of this video. The fact is that America is more diverse in religious views than it was back in colonial days, so we need to move past the American = Christian thing now.
