I tend to downplay everything (that is, if someone compliments me or say that something I have done is good, I say that whatever they complimented isn't really that great). goal could be to simply try and get her to notice you, then say 'hi' when you see her, then get acquainted, then friends.. and every time you take that next step, give yourself a little pat in the back, allow it to help you gain confidence, and with time the whole thing should become easier.

And once you're friends with her, don't put up an act, be yourself around her. She may or may not like you 'like that', but if she does she will like you for you, shyness and all. ;)

Do you realise that what you're saying is basically that you just gave up before you even tried? What if she doesn't like her friend in that way? You could be missing out on something great.. for no real reason.
