THURSDAY

Oh to think that the surplus of poultry
That invade the November aisles
Is a fairly odd reminder
To stop and think for a while

That our kitchens are stocked and a-plenty
That theres more than enough to eat
And for once in a year on a Thursday
Our families complete

So were grateful
Oh so grateful
As we gather round the table
As we clasp our hands
And take in this lovely sight
And to think that everyday
Brings about reasons to celebrate
Oh that we wouldnt save our thanks
For just one night

Oh to think that the bird in the oven
That to cook it would take all day
That for once we resign to be patient
That some things are worth the wait

And to think of the brown and the orange
That bedeck our city scene
Is a welcome sign of the harvest
Of the things weve sown, well reap

Oh the cornucopias in store displays
And the annual sit around watch the game
As the starch and the tryptophan work their way
To our drowsy heads til were sedated
And stuffed to the brim with turkey meat
Thank God this casserole lasts for weeks
Can I borrow your mothers recipe
For a leftover turkey sandwich feast
So that we wouldnt save our thanks
For just one night
