hiranyakhashyapa was the raakshas in krutayuga He got three bessings from lord shiva 1) he would niether killed by man or animal 2) he should not be killed either in day or night 3) he should not die either on earth or on sky.Thats why lord vishnu become narasimha ( either man or animal) at the time of killing it is dawn ( either day or night) he sat on door step and kept hiranya on his knees (either earth or sky) and killed him.

In the NArasimha form, the Lord Vishnu is neither a devata, kinnera, gandharva, nor a complete animal nor a human. So hiranyakasipus first boon was negated.

Next he takes the hiranyakasipu onto the base of the door. In telugu it is called Gadapa.

In hindu tradition, this extrance of the door is considered neither of the worlds that Hiranyakasipu had asked in his second wish. Lord Narasimha kills Hiranyakasipu on such an entrance and relieves the worlds.

Significance :

King Hiranyakasipu was a Shiv Bhakt and had rivalry with Lord Vishnu. After great penance he gets a boon. The boon is that he should not be killed by a human, animal or yaksha, gandharva or devata. Second, he should not be killed either in air, water or earth or pathal loka or heavens or hell.

With these boons he becomes invincible and defeats all devatas and usurps all worlds and oppresses people. After this trepidations reach a limit, Lord vishnu takes the narasimha avtar
