When Ronnie Hinson and the Hinson's introduced "The Lighthouse," every gospel group wanted to sing it and record it, and most of them did. The Happy Goodmans took it on like it was there own composition and made it a nightly staple of their repertoire. It gained so much notoriety during the early '70's that it became one of the most popular gospel songs of all time. But, no one had really elavated the song into new heights, no one had really sung it, until the Stamps did it. A little know thing about this song and the Stamps is that when they were touring with Elvis, and he would be unwinding into the wee hours of the morning following a concert, Elvis would ask them again and again to sing this song. He would close his eyes as they sang and sing along. Then he would pound upon the grand piano they had gathered around and say, "sing it again!" Elvis was not only a fan of good singing and harmony, and of southern gospel quartet singing, but he was incredibly moved by the words and delivery of this song. See if this song doesn't do the same thing for you! Here is J.D. Sumner and his Stamps Quartet singing for you: "The Lighthouse." Enjoy and be blessed.
