  • I was born here. My Mother is from Trinidad and my Father was born here but grew up in Guyana. When relatives came form the Caribbean we listened to Calypso. I love this song.

  • The lyrics are West Indian response to 1960 independence for Congo - West Indians regarded the Congolese as relatively unsophisticated and this was a kind of protest song against British rule - if the Congolese can be independent, what about West Indians?
