This is what's known as "political theatre." It's one of the best examples of political theatre. But, being political theatre, it's filled with rhetorical dialogue that can be cut, stretched, shortened, or lengthened to any degree and there would be little difference in the overall effect. I suggest that you watch Marat/Sade on YouTube with the different sections out of order, skipping a section or two, and you'll get the idea. The same could never be said, for example, of KING LEAR.

I think Zoe Caldwell was playing Medea that year. Very few people can win against Medea. And Glenda was a new comer. The play and the movies were Glenda Jackson's breakthrough performance.
