A few people here have mentioned Bowie. Bowie was constantly changing his look but he disagreed with the "chameleon" analogy. As he put it, a chameleon changes its color to blend in with its surroundings, and what Bowie (and Weiland) did is the exact opposite. I agree with peachyunicorn below that the Doors song, "The Changeling" is more apt. Nice collection of photos, by the way.
