GREATEST SINGLE SPORTS ACHIEVEMENT OF ALL TIME BECAUSE OF THE MANNER IN WHICH IT SHATTERED THE EXISTING STANDARD. BOB TOLD ME MANY YEARS LATER HE MUST HAVE BEEN 6 FEET HIGH AT THE APEX OF THE JUMP. AMAZING AND AN AMAZINGLY HUMBLE AND GRACIOUS CHAMPION.

In my mid-40's high school long jumper...NO GREATER INSPIRATION than the Great Bob Beamon!!! Just like every other long jumper of my time, WE ALL aspired to execute the precise mechanics he did this day. No, we knew obviously we were not going to break record, but we sure in the fantasized about it!!!
