DYNASTY: I Can't Be The Kind Of Man You Want Me To Be

After years of flip-flopping between men and women, Steven Carrington (Jack Coleman) tells ex-wife and mother of his only child Danny, Sammy Jo (Heather Locklear) that he is gay (in a 'Dynastic' 1980s way, not actually using the word 'gay').

The scene is taken from a late season 7 episode (almost 2 years after Steven's lover Luke was killed off in Moldavia), by which point the character became celibate.

According to a 1987 NY Times article, sexually-related content on US TV shows (including romantic storylines of gay characters) was toned down because of the AIDS epidemic.

Jack Coleman spent one more season on "Dynasty," the show's penultimate 8th season, with none of the storylines having anything to do with his sexuality, although the character had finally come to terms with himself.

@jadetiger88888, Yes, Jack Coleman...that, also now, plays in Heroes. He came into his Dynasty role in the third season when the original Steven (Al Corley--former doorman at Studio 54) left to pursue his music career.

I can understand why a straight actor would want the character to be straight. But boys are boys, most actors get into the business so they can kiss other girls. But Luke and Steven are one of the cutest couples ever in my 21 year old girlish bi-sexual opinion.
