ABSTRACT
The World Energy Council has estimated the 'useful' global ocean wave energy resource as 2TW (17,500TWh/year). From this it has been estimated (Thorpe 1999) that the practical economic contribution from wave energy converters could be 2,000TWh/year (similar to current installed nuclear or hydroelectric generation capacity). Such generating capacity could result in up to 2 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions being displaced from fossil fuel generation per year - similar to current emissions from electricity generation in the US.
Formed in 1998, based in Edinburgh, Scotland, Ocean Power Delivery Ltd has developed the 'Pelamis' wave energy converter...
Great talk!

For those whining about OMG! oil in the ocean? There are biodegadeable hydraulic fluids out there made from vegetable oils. Wind mills get the OMG! Birdkill whining, that is statistically less than birds and buildings unless a mill is in a nest zone........... If you are still upset about that- fine go grab a knife-bow and arrows and go live of the land the way the aboriginees/ amerindians do. That is the way you ethics say you should live your life style- go live it!

Global Warning- Phooey. Long term energy- Yes! Our ocean of oil is getting used up, and we need to solve for newer and more sustainable stuff- Renewables in the current buzz. This looks like a nice new tool and if engineered right could be a major tool. Yes there are green considerations, but c'mon people this stuff has to start somewhere so we can learn and solve unforseen problems. Most of the "green power" is in its infancy, give it a chance to grow messy diapers and all......

I respect your comment, but in any new type of public release of new renewable energy technology, there is always a problem that conflicts with nature. EVERY SINGLE technology has had a problem. I don't trust company's that put international patents on new technologies that can help the world. You can see that their interests are only in money, not helping people. We have a long way to go to make efficient energy renewable technology.

I work in this field and can tell you that none of your concerns have gone unstudied. The lubricants are in sealed compartments and cannot leak into the ocean... But consider that thousands of boats leak gas and oil into the ocean every day and it makes these things look like saints with how clean they are.

We live in a generation where our great grand children. will look back and blame us for screwing up the Earth, our only Home at this present time. Then we are talking about Global Warming because of CO2, in comparison, look at what we're doing to the Earth...far worse. This planet isn't a lab experiment, it's not one we can replace if something screws up. TRUE Evil now exists in the world. What are we going to do about it?...We need to become mature & aware both spiritually and technologically.

A Joule Equivalent of a (Small Atomic Bomb)....and then you think we are evolving? we Humans are destroying our home planet, if that is what we are evolving too then I don't want to imagine what we are going to leave our great grand children in the very near future. Every country is highly interested in this Weapon technology because it can be done covertly....and no one would be the wiser. Nikola Tesla even stopped working on the project after realizing what the Military's intentions were....

Might not be a natural disaster at all. This has been going on for YEARS. Test being done to throw more and more hurricanes at the United States and the US has deflected most of them but some like Katrina is said to be man made natural disaster. Earth Quakes can be triggered as well with ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) Waves sort of like a subwoofer, the resonance of the waves triggers plates to shift underneath the Earth, instantly causing an EarthQuake 4-5 on the Richter Scale...

I do believe that vechio80 is right when he stated it is the next wave of human evolution but why would you want to bring water to a remote location on the Earth? There already using Silver Iodine to accumulate clouds and have it rain/snow at any particular point & The Military of the world is already Weaponizing Weather to construct covert wars. They are already damaging Natural Jetstreams by manipulating the Ionosphere with HAARP like technology. Infact alot of the so called natural disasters.
