I'm sorry, but no.

Although "irre" (irrsinnig: "of mad sense"=insane) does actually mean "mad" or "crazy", "Jemanden in die Irre führen" means "to mislead someone". Depending on the context, it can also mean "to disorient someone" or, metaphorically, "to fool someone".

However, I would have translated it "astray".

Well, it says "in die Irre" and not "in die Irre führen". That was why I pointed it out that way.

But I see where you're going with this, so perhaps you're right. In my opinion, however, the lyrics could go both ways :)
