Well I'll be darned! That a rather good idea. What lathe are you going to put on it? Bare in mind that if it is too heavy it will distort everything and you'll have problems.

It's going to take a 7x12 mini lathe. I did a test rig with one drive rod lifting a quarter of the weight and that worked fine. Of course there's a little added friction in the finished lift but I have the option of either adding 2 or 4 more threaded drive rods or a counter weight system. The lathe won't be held in place by the lift, once raised bolts will hold and level it.
