I'm very interested in the Coast Guard. I'm currently majoring in political science heading for law school and I was wondering if I should join after I finish college or after I finish law school? What are the opportunities I could get? I'm not thinking of joining just to get the CG to pay for my studies, I'm pretty sure since they're a small force, they take good care of their budget and need good people whiling to work, not to take advantage of them, but again this is just what I think.

im 16 and am wondering about the coast guard.....when should i talk to a recruiter i would like to enlist when i turn 17 (next year)

What happens if you should wash out from the GM training? I asked because I'm looking at the military but my mathematics are pretty weak. If you should fail, is it like an Open Contract and you're there for the needs of the Coast Guard or are you released from your contract?

If you wash out of GM training, or any rating's "A" school for that matter, you will be transferred back into the field as a non-rate (E-3) to serve out the rest of your contract. I believe you can apply for a different rating's training school after a set time. Call 877-NOW-USCG to talk with a recruiter who'll know for sure.

@USCGRecruiting im thinking of joining the coast guard i have a few medical questions first, i have extremely sweaty arm pits hah will the medical benefits cover a procedure that would remove my sweat glands in my arm pits?? second i havent had health insurance for about 2 years therefore i havent gone to the dentist in along time so i cavities (kinda a lot) will they be fixed before basic training?

@Theohkid Good question. I'd call your local recruiter to find out for sure (877-NOW-USCG). As long as you pass the physical entrance exam, all extra dental work gets straightened out in boot camp...although I'd try and get it done before hand. You will have enough stress without dealing with dental too.

I'm not sure what 4F means, I mostly shoot the video and take the pictures you see in recruiting material. I'd give your local recruiter a call and they can let you know one way or the other: 877-NOW-USCG. Good luck!
