@Superduperanimatorz They were upper class from peasants but lower than Lords, Shogun Advisors, etc. Also take rank into consideration, modern example: a Marine Captain could afford better weapons/equip. to supplement his standard equip. than a Marine Corporal would on their salary; so the common samurai was more like a Middle Class warrior. Just like most soldiers today are low and middle class citizens.

@bladedaces And mentioning the jacket again - can you believe that sometimes in Poland people colloquially call a jacket "katana" ;D It's a pretty old term here I believe :)
