The car, designed and built by University students, was a purpose-built race car designed to achieve the best possible fuel mileage. It is a three-wheel vehicle (two in the front, one in the back) and has a fiberglass body, which makes the car look like a bobsled. The car is very sleek and aerodynamic. The heart of the car is the engine. It was converted from a flathead to an overhead valve design. Also, the engine was converted from carburetion to fuel injection. These two main modifications increased the efficiency of the vehicle significantly.
The vehicle recently competed with international teams from all around the world. They were able to obtain 1321 miles per gallon, a new record for Binghamton, easily doubling past results. This year's team of students will modify the current car and we expect the team to achieve 1500-1600 mpg at this year's competition.
