OP VLEUGELS VAN GEZANGEN
Op vleugels van gezangen
zweef ik naar het licht.
Licht, dat nog vol verlangen,
alleen voor Liefde zwicht.
M'n hart is vrij en open.
M'n geest is soepel en stil.
M'n ziel, ze laat zich dopen
en dát is wat ik wil.

Ik kijk omlaag naar de aarde.
De Ganges kabbelt er voort.
Plotseling zie ik de waarde
van 't wonderschone oord:
De stilte onthult je geheimen
die je voorheen verloor.
Je kunt weer dankbaar zijn en
je hebt meer oog daarvoor.

De aarde draagt ons allen
als moeder op haar schoot.
Jazeker, het zou je bevallen
als je maar aandacht bood.
Als je maar aandacht bood.
Aandacht bood.

Translation of the Dutch poem:

On wings of song,
I'am floating toward the Light,
Light, still full of wishes,
Gives in to true love alone.
My heart is free and open,
My mind is flexible and silent,
My soul will be baptised
And this is what I want

I'm looking down to the earth.
Quietly the Ganges flows on.
Suddenly I see the value
Of this wonderful and beautiful place.
The silence will tell you some secrets,
You probably lost before,
You're able to feel grateful again
And you're giving it more attention.

The earth carries us all
On her lap, like a mother.
For sure, you would like it,
If only you would give it some attention.2x

Original German poem:

Auf Flügeln des Gesanges,
Herzliebchen, trag ich dich fort,
Fort nach den Fluren des Ganges,
Dort weiß ich den schönsten Ort;
Dort liegt ein rotblühender Garten
Im stillen Mondenschein,
Die Lotosblumen erwarten
Ihr trautes Schwesterlein.

Die Veilchen kichern und kosen,
Und schaun nach den Sternen empor.
Heimlich erzählen die Rosen
Sich duftende Märchen ins Ohr.
Es hüpfen herbei und lauschen
Die frommen, klugen Gazelln,
Und in der Ferne rauschen
Des heilgen Stromes Well'n.

Dort wollen wir niedersinken
Unter dem Palmenbaum,
Und Liebe und Ruhe trinken,
Und träumen seligen Traum.2x

Translation of the original poem:

On wings of song,
My darling, I'll carry you away,
Away to the fields of the Ganges
Where I know the most beautiful place.
There lies a red-flowering garden,
In the serene moonlight,
With lotus-flowers, awaiting
Their beloved little sister.

The violets giggle and cherish,
While looking up at the stars.
The roses whisper to their ears
Some fragant fairy-tales.
The gentle, bright gazelles,
Jump passed them and listen;
And in the distance murmur
The waves of the holy stream.

There, under the palm-tree
We will lay down,
While dinking love and peace
And dreaming blessed dreams.2x
