My favorite Kata in Judo. Goshin jutsu was developed in 1956 to update the much older defense kata with modern day threats, such as pistols, knives and sticks rather than swords or spears. The kata was furthermore influenced by Kenji Tomiki who was also a practitioner of Aikido.

There are 21 techniques to this kata and they are listed in order.

Defense against Grabs:
Ryote dori - two hand hold
Hidari eri dori - left lapel hold
Migi eri dori - right lapel hold
Kata ude dori - single hand hold
Ushiro eri dori - back collar hold
Ushiro jime - rear choke
Kakae dori - rear seizure

Defense against strikes:
Naname uchi - slanting strike
Ago tsuki - uppercut
Gammen tsuki - thrust punch or jab
Mae geri - front kick
Yoko geri - side kick

Defense against knife:
Tsukkake - close in thrust
Choku zuki - straight thrust
Naname zuki - slanting stab

Defense against stick:
Furiage - upswing against a stick
Furioroshi - downswing against a stick
Morote zuke - two hand thrust

Defense against sidearm
Shomen zuke - pistol held to abdomen
Koshi gamae - pistol at side
Haimen zuke - pistol against the back

  • @MoviPro Thats because its the most universal martial mart, you could aswell say that football/soccer has saved most lives because many people that survive have played football at least once.

  • If you want a good experience in New York, judging but what I found out from Ueshiba-sensei. There is an HQ of the Aikikai in New York. You can check them out here.

    142 West 18th Street, 2nd Floor

    New York NY 10011

    Tel: 1.212.242.6246

    Fax: 1.212.242.9749

Drop them a line they will be able to help you as well if you want a real authentic Aikido experience in NY.

  • @GuardianShisa if you are looking to have the best experience of your life. Please come to Japan. Before I left Tokyo to go to live in Fukuoka; and now to my current area of Okayama. I have managed to keep contacts in the martial arts community. Even being a black guy here does not change anything when it comes to respecting a fellow martial artist. Please send me a message and will give you the information you are seeking. I can also introduce you to the dojo upon your arrival here in Japan.

  • @DragonOne1 I'm so jealous. I haven't done any good Aikido in so long. So many Aikido places in New York are either non-legit or the instructors are a joke. If you know any good Aikido places, I'm welcome for any info.

  • @DragonOne1 I could always delete that comment for you. If you want?

  • @Shinkatana420 . I also know the Dojo of the last living child of the original Morihei Ueshiba family line in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The Aikikai, you might know this place. His name is Moriteru Ueshiba. I could give you his mobile phone number if you want. He is a good friend of mine. I think he would be glad to give you a history lesson. He found this quite funny when I translated it into Japanese for him. What a riot. "Things uneducated say give the wise ones laughs for a 1000 lifetimes." Served

WRONG!!!!! If you knew anything about Judo you would retract this statement. Judo was given to us by the great Professor Jigoro Kano, it is not based off the Goshinyo Te, nor is Judo the sport version of Daito-Ryu. Judo under the watchful eye of Professor Kano, who was originally trained in the art of what was then known as Jiujitsu (Not Jujutsu). Developed this style to deliver the maximum efficient way to rid yourself of an opponent. Sumo has no known connection to Daito-Ryu.

  • @MoviPro I'm really curious about this statistic...can you cite your source?

  • Las técnicas realizadas en el goshin jutsu, tienen directa relación con el karate do y el aikido. Se puede apreciar "ura ken" "mae gueri" etc. Como asi también "kotegaeshi" tan usado en los practicantes del Aikido.

  • this kata needs to be updated for 2010 with old forms + new form attacks and defends from 5 crackheads who are trying to steal your money :-)
