Tau tog fishing the Concrete Ships (Apr 09, 2011)
Redfish and I planned the trip since fall last year. We couldn't make the trip because of bad weather. This time we made it. It was my second and redfish's first tog fishing trip.
Due to the strong wind, we gave up the first Island (CBBT -- Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel). We went to the Kiptopeke State Park and fished the Concrete Ships
We caught 10 tog. Three of them were keepers at 14.5", 15" and 18".
I am not an expert but I put quite an effort to make this video for future tog fishermen.
We used Rob Choi's Rig. We ran into Kayak Kevin at Ocean East 2. And he gave us very good tog-fishing tips.

Hi! One of yhe tips you used was to use the right rod... what type of rod would that be? I live in the virginia beach area and kiptopeake is very closeby. I usually use a med-heavy graphite for flounder and blues, what about tog?

I carry my yak in a similar fashion. I've found using a couple of ratcheting holddown straps going from the back handle (overhung end) to a loop at the front of the bed secures the yak well. I tie the other end down to the front loops also to keep the thing from popping up over the cab.
Seems to work.

we used to fish Stone Harbor NJ for Tog and other species off of the bridges, and our buckets used to spill over with fish. We used green crab fiddler and blood worms. Sad to say that those good days are over.

Green Crab is the best bait I think. But it is illegal (it is invasive)

im a beginner at tog fishing and i go out in the bay and ive been to the concrete ships before, but how big can a tog get?

That was my second trip. So I am a beginner. Some caught my friends were 15-20lb range.

The other double duty kind is shrimp. I found that cooked spiced shrimp is as good as cooked shrimp for croaker. Cooked shrimp outperforms fresh raw shrimp and squid in croaker fishing.
