Alexander Stakenburg - Solo Guitar.
Recorded a while ago when first dabbling with recording (still learning). I wish I had played it on my archtop, but as it needed some repair, this version is recorded on a solid body with very few effects and eq. This is a mellow version with only a few harmonic twists.

  • Aha! I recognise this pariticular notation and handwriting style on the sheet music, mine came from a from a book called Spaces 1 (mine was a illegal pirate) that was very popular amongst the jazz guys some years ago. Great book, it had over 200 songs of the jazz standards.

  • @CorvusDreams It's actually just a scan from the original Real Book. They say it might be the incredible Steve Swallow who was the author of it and he somewhat alludes to it (as does the fact that a disproportionate amount of his compositions was featured in it). One of the greatest things ever done for aspiring jazz musicians of the post-bop era.

  • This sounds great

  • @StavrosMusic Thanks!

  • This is one of my all time favorites and you do it so well. My favorite rendition of this song is when it is sung by Tony Bennett. Thanks for sharing this.

    Peace and blessings,

    Tom

  • This wonderfully the right mood for this song. I have heard a dozen or so and they are all out of sync with the meaning of the lyrics.

  • Thank you for the imediate response. You play it wonderfully by the way. This song reminds my of my youth. Are options for learning songs back then were to either buy the sheet music, the LP or learn it from somebody. I wasn't good enough back then(and still not) to pick it up immediately by ear. I'll have to look up Steve Swallow, I only knew that he played with Burton. I love music history and find those that were involved with it interesting. Thank you kindly for shareing your music.

  • Exactly the way I want to learn this song. Beautiful, but I cant read the sheet music here...too small, can you email a copy of your arrangement to me/

  • Sweet - nice job
