Have a Happy Life Day! And nothing kicks off a memorable Life Day quite so much as watching the legendary Star Wars Holiday Special receive a fully deserved Rifftrax treatment! Yes, all your favorite Wookies are here: there's Chewbacca, Malla, Itchy, Lumpy and Art Carney. Tony Award Winner and Oscar nominated Diahann Carroll as a singing holographic prostitute who services Grandpa Itchy. And Bea Arthur stretches her talent by playing a woman. Not only that, there are commercials from 1978 that will come close to convincing you that "1978" is fairly synonymous with "Hell".

"But, Rifftrax," you say, "Rifftrax, please - The Star Wars Holiday Special is not commercially available. How am I supposed to watch this?!" Well, we assume you taped it off the TV back in 1978 using your 130 pound top loading Panasonic NV-9300 U-Matic VCR, just like we did. If not, what were you thinking? Stop right now and GO Out and Get Looking for onE. Because we taped ours off of the television set, and our NV-9300 doesn't have an "edit" function printed on one of its dozens of plastic piano key-style switches, we just left the commercials in there. (We're sure the International Ladies Garment Workers Union won't mind.) So ours is two hours long and has a descriptive scroll on the front end, just like the one you can Get frOm yOur friend Greg, in LakE VIDEO, Illinois. (Don't look it up, they don't like to draw attention to themselves in Lake Video.)

Bill, Mike, and Kevin make this the itchiest, lumpiest Life Day of them all!

  • Lucas can't be entirely blamed for this atrocity, as his involvement with it was limited. It was mostly conceived by a bunch of CBS employees who developed variety shows. The animated segments were actually produced by Nelvana. Even Lucas has disowned this mess.

  • RIP, Bea.

  • @Popcultureguy3000 YAY for Doctor Who and Tom Baker BOOO for ignorant fool's.

  • BEA RIP!

  • The biggest mistake Lucas ever made was allowing CBS to use his characters and universe. The second biggest was the three prequels. Third biggest is Greebo shooting first. Yes, The SWHS really is that bad.

  • @Unclephart I remember this one time I was watching the an old Doctor Who intro from theTom Baker era and I suddenly noticed someone commenting that it was a reference to Family Guy. The people who make these kinds of comments don't even realize what the word "reference" means.

  • Comedy is still there. :) I just miss their silhouettes at the bottom of the screen! Its not the same without seeing the bots and Mike... :(

  • "Finish your Slurm!" Best fucking riff ever.

  • @wayne388 If nothing else, I can only presume that Lucas felt cheated. After all, he wouldn't sexually assault his own franchise with a profusion of ill-conceived characters and asinine creative decisions for another two decades, yet an assemblage of knuckle-draggers who crafted variety shows by outmoded formula arrived to soil his brainchild in advance.

  • @rqbuchanan I would be ashamed even thinking about it if I was him. Whether I was involved or not, to think that my fictional universe would be raped like this is scarring.

  • @nhaberbrook To the Star Wars theme, she ha to be coked out of her mind. They played the music and the director thought, she is not supposed to sing to this...ah fuck it.

  • This special existed for one reason, so kids could sit though this torture just to see the Kenner segment advertising all the new star wars toys. After seeing that Trailtracker commercial, Kenner needed the Star Wars licensing deal BAD.
