This is a video taken by my father in the early 60's with an 8mm. It shows a Atlas missile being loaded into a Douglas C-133b Cargomaster for transport. The C-133 could carry an entire Atlas, Minuteman or Titan missile. The Atlas ICBM you see here is 75 feet long and 10 feet in diameter. This is the same missile which carried John Glenn into orbit in 1962. The C-133's cargo compartment was over 86 feet long and could carry up to 110,000 pounds of cargo. My father was responsible for the loading and unloading of the aircraft as well as calculating it's weight and balance. This is a critical function for any aircraft. His title was Loadmaster and was part of the flight crew. To learn more about the C-133 go to this webpage: http://www.angelfire.com/wa2/c133bcargomaster/home.html
this should improve take off distance slightly....

I am going to take an educated guess that this was taken at NAS Miramar. General Dynamics Convair Division was responsible for the production of the Atlas missile. The plant that produced the Atlas was in Kearny Mesa very close to Miramar. Looks vaguely like it too, but could be Vandenburg AFB in Lompoc also.
