@TheLolbot3000 In the US, hotels offer afternoon tea as a way to attract business. "High tea" sounds more sophisticated than "Afternoon tea". So it's a way of charging more money to the uninformed, social-climbers who want to impress equally uninformed friends, relatives and business associates.

Dude, a lot of us don't even eat four meals a day. We don't have a separate meal just for drinking tea. On special occasions maybe.
