  • @mmLeftovers 0:07 perfect slide tackle. at 1:02 somewhat by luck as well maldini manages by rolling on the ground to make overmars lose control of the ball, at 1:07 in the same action he remanages to take away the ball from him...that's his objective...i'd say it's a win. and if a defender doesn't struggle that means he sucks or the enemy sucks.

  • @ForzaAquila 0:25 my apologies, i thought it was maldini. although in any case, why wasn't he in position? :p

1:00 i acknowledged that maldini got the better of him in this instance.

1:25 i'm assuming the ball went out of play from the bit that follows. that is, i assume it's going chronologically.

i have no reason to protect overmars, except that he genuinely did get the better of maldini in this case. and no, maldini never beat him more than once. if anything, maldini struggled

  • @mmLeftovers 0:10 i agree on that one. 0:25: that's not maldini you can see because his shirt number is two digit. 1:00 they're both under pressure and maldini comes out victorious. 1:25 where do you see overmars putting the ball out of play? we only see them running along each other in slow mo for 3 seconds...somehow you predicted what came next? all i'm seeing is you protecting overmars. Yep he beat maldini once but maldini but him more than once.

  • @ForzaAquila sure.

0:10 maldini times his tackle poorly and brings overmars down.

0:25 maldini clumsily brings overmars down with a late challenge.

1:00 maldini just about manages to wriggle free of overmars, but he's clearly under pressure.

1:25 overmars keeps up with maldini's run, eventually puts the ball out of play.

it's obvious overmars won this time.

  • @mmLeftovers ok tell me the times write for example 0:50 write the time where overmars had the number of occasions.

  • @ForzaAquila okay, he stopped overmars on a number of occasions, but you have to consider the legality of so many challenges. all but i think two of these challenges were deemed fouls and i think that best shows how much maldini struggled with overmars.

nothing against maldini, he's one of the greatest defenders of all time, but this was surely a bad day at the office.

  • @ForzaAquila ahh, that ignoble art of italian 'defending' - perfected by claudio gentile, adopted by poalo maldini. while i cba to refer to the video, it's quite evident that on a number of occasions, overmars did get the better of maldini. the fact that maldini was actually forced to resort to brute strength is testament to that.

i'm pretty sure that on any other day, all but one of maldini's tackles would've been a foul.

  • @mmLeftovers not to mention tell me the exact time in this video where overmars beat maldini? maldini owns overmars at 0:07 and at 1:56. at 0:13 overmars would've beaten maldini, it was a foul, but he stopped overmars and that's what's important. Other than that one moment where he could've gotten past there are no other parts in this video that show overamars is superior to maldini.

  • @mmLeftovers I'm not making excuses, foul or not maldini stopped him the whole game and he didn't get taken off the field. Overmars was faster and would've gotten away if maldini didn't force him out of control with brute force. Maldini did his job and Overmars didn't...who won there?

  • @ForzaAquila haha, pathetic excuses. listen, if there are conflicting personal problems, more often than not, a player will not play. it happened with ronaldo in the '98 world cup final (at least, it was meant to) and that was a far bigger match.

just take off your azzurri glasses and accept it, overmars' raw pace and direct style was just too much for maldini. maldini is a legend, no doubt about it, but overmars made him look so clumsy and cumbersome. 1 - 0 to overmars, sorry man.
